THE government jet had to make an emergency landing at Shannon airport after fears that the brakes were not working, just weeks after a major overhaul.

The flight was carrying the Foreign Affairs Minister Micheál Martin and a number of civil servants and journalists.

The 17-year-old Gulfstream jet was delayed for seven hours on its return flight from Tbilisi, Georgia, on Friday because of a leak in the hydraulic system.
