Silent menace

IS there a bell on your bike? In my experience, the greatest danger to a pedestrian on the footpath arises when a cyclist approaches swiftly, silently and from the rear.

The close brush with hospital services which often follows can be an alarming event.

As far as I know, it is still the law that a bicycle should be fitted with a bell. But I haven’t seen one for years. Have you?
