Bring back Bertie

RECENT calls to bring back former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern clearly show that he possesses leadership qualities and was trusted by voters.

It was the media who hounded him from office — maybe because they were running out of headlines. I have no doubt Bertie’s resignation was the result of sheer frustration at the continuing media intrusion into his personal life.

Bertie recognised that politics today requires a consensus approach. He is a decent person and has a number of moral qualities and beliefs — all of which would be completely alien to many journalists. The public like him and believe him when he speaks.
