IF THE claim by the country’s largest trade union that employers are being tipped off about Health and Safety Authority inspections is true then those responsible must be identified and removed from the process.

Regulations regarding workplaces were hard-won and put in place to protect workers their families and employers. It is unacceptable that they should be undermined by anyone on a nod-and-a-wink basis.

SIPTU also claims that workplace deaths are greatly underestimated as only deaths that occur within the workplace are recorded as such. Amazingly, this excludes workers who are killed in road accidents during the course of their work.
