FF pensioners got what they voted for

I FIND it scandalous that the Government parties — in particular Fianna Fáil — have consistently lied to people since the decision to drop universal entitlement to a medical card for the over-70s.

FF pensioners got what they voted for

I am open to the argument that super-rich over-70s should not have a medical card, but on budget day and for a sustained period afterwards, Fianna Fáil spun the line that only the super-rich would be affected.

This was a lie. A reading of the figures showed that everyone with more than 240 a week would lose their cards whether or not they were given 400 a year for drugs and/or a GP-only card.

We have had 10 years of incompetence from Fianna Fáil under Bertie Ahern, and the PDs, and many of these senior citizens voted to re-elect FF last year.

My heart goes out to the genuine needy citizens who are over 70, but some of them were getting only what they voted for.
