Transparency in action - DPP move strengthens our system

THE decision by the Director of Public Prosecutions to explain, where possible, to the next-of-kin of victims of fatal offences why prosecutions may not be taken or discontinued is entirely welcome.

It will engender trust and by so doing strengthen an office of the State and an essential arm of our judicial system.

This proactive transparency will, when circumstances permit, remove some of the barriers between the apparatus of government and those who depend on it for justice and protection.
