Medical card U-turn - Cuts veto may not work again

THE past week has shown what can happen when we shake off the apathy and refuse to accept what politicians plan for us.

What a pity it is then that it took such a regressive measure, such an ill-considered attack on our parents and grandparents, to provoke the kind of anger and unified determination that gets things changed.

A very charitable assessment of the debacle would be that a group of inexperienced leaders prepared an emergency budget in circumstances well outside the range of any of our experiences and made unfortunate blunders.
