TDs laugh as budget piles on the agony

Above all, it should have been delivered with respect to the people who will foot the bill — the common citizenry.

However, rather than treat it as asombre affair given its painful implications, we were subjected to one of the most disgusting sights I have ever seen — Government TDs laughing and clapping their way through the delivery of a hugely painful measure with a most appalling rabble-rousing crescendo of applause, laughter, hollering, fingerwaving and backslapping, like children released from school to begin holidays.

This was not a dignified budget. This was not a dignified parliamentary occasion and, most certainly, this is not a dignified Government.
