LAST year Taoiseach Bertie Ahern appointed 20 junior ministers to an already bloated political plutocracy.

One of them was Marie Hoctor who was given “special responsibility for older people”.

In all the post-budget furore, we could hear the despairing voices of elderly people with limited incomes and chronic illnesses on the radio.
