Lourdes: magic cures and total indifference

WITH regard to Oliver Broderick’s letter (September 24) on Lourdes, I fail to see what point he is struggling to make.

Lourdes: magic cures and total indifference

Is he suggesting that reporter Angela Doland is an atheist? Is he suggesting that, because he can’t explain certain happenings at Lourdes, he is opting for magic as an answer?

Or is he suggesting that atheists should go to Lourdes to be cured of their affliction? Surely atheists couldn’t care less about “alleged/reputed” curative waters in Lourdes, and they wouldn’t see atheism as an affliction.

In their view it is the religious that are afflicted by delusion. If I said that the tone of his letter was ‘holier than thou’, would that be trite?
