Corrib gas project brings 800 jobs and buzz of prosperity to the region

IN their letters (September 13), Seán Ó Riain and Fergal Scully identify to some degree the problems we have here with the Corrib gas project where people from afar tells us what is good for us.

Corrib gas project brings 800 jobs and buzz of prosperity to the region

While everyone is entitled to his or her view, we have particular concern with the number of blow-ins, particularly British veterans, joining up with some locals who have genuine if unfounded fears (Lisbon-like) about the project despite the assurances of An Bord Pleanála, EPA, the Government, the main opposition party and others.

The people of Erris and the rest of Co Mayo who have had to live with mass emigration, unemployment and poverty when everyone looked the other way see the positive aspects of the project.

Already there is a buzz of prosperity around the place and with more than 800 people working on the site, we feel confident the project will lead to further prosperity in the years ahead.
