We have had enough heartless EU bureaucracy

FIANNA Fáil MEP Brian Crowley is touring Co Cork at present, continuing to promote the official Lisbon Treaty line — that a no vote was a vote against Europe.

But alert voters have already seen the leaked memos, published in the national press, instructing the yes lobbyists to peddle this precise line, muddying the issue.

Possibly, Mr Crowley has not read the 1,000-page document — deliberately obscure, as the yes side have already admitted — as carefully as those he accuses of scaremongering.

Of course we want to work with the other European nations in a trading partnership that will promote the common good.

But we were not conned: the Lisbon Treaty was the worst of a long line of treaties that have been stealthily drawing ever more power to the unelected EU bureaucrats, in the small print, while trying to sell the deal to the public as a step towards prosperity. The game is up, lads. We have had enough of heartless, centralised regulations that send whole industries to the wall — not to mention mindless, petty regulations that needed no Brussels monitoring, such as the banning of eating cakes at agricultural show prizegivings.

Mr Crowley should forget the Lisbon con-job and start doing the job he is paid to do — representing the democratic peoples of Europe — instead of this contemptible, stealthy grab for power.
