A NUMBER of European Union countries have promised to help Ireland persuade Belarus to lift its ban on its children travelling outside the country.

Micheál Martin, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, raised the issue at a EU meeting in Avignon at the weekend and found he had lots of support.

“They understood the situation immediately when I explained it and several colleagues offered to help, especially the Poles,” said Mr Martin afterwards.
