AM I the only one who was mortified to hear Taoiseach Brian Cowen singing (or the nearest thing to singing) Paddy’s Green Shamrock Shore on Ceilí House and repeated on RTÉ radio on Saturday morning (August 30).

Whenever Mr Cowen returns to Tullamore he seems to break into some ditty. Last May it was the same. It is bad enough to have to look at photos of him missing golf putts while the country endures all this bad weather and an economy in tatters, but teeing off on RTÉ is really too much.

During the general election last year Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny was excoriated by the media when he broke into O, What a Beautiful Morning while in Boyle with a local candidate.
