Minister runs with hare and hunts with hounds

SO Foreign Minister Micheál Martin is on record as one of the numerous objectors to the building of a co-located hospital in the grounds of Cork University Hospital at Wilton while at the same time voting for its implementation at the cabinet table.

It is any wonder that the public are the totally fed up with politics?

Mr Martin is wondering why we voted no to Lisbon, but he should not burden himself with the issue — he should just look at the way he runs with the hare and hunts with the hound.

For politicians — councillors, TDs or ministers — to have any credibility in voters’ eyes, they should lead by example. For the minister to use traffic congestion at Wilton and other insignificant arguments in his objection is wrong. He is adopting the classic NIMBY stance because he is obviously concerned that his first preference vote was down by more than 20% at the last general election.

Roll on Lisbon II so we can give them the thumbs down again
