An unacceptable display of violence

THE outrageous display of violence by Traveller groups in Waterford seems to have passed by without much comment.

Is it almost the case that this type of behaviour is acceptable because we have become so used to this kind of carry-on from Traveller groups?

What century are these people living in? I thought faction fighting died out in the late 19th century.

At one time battles among the Travellers could be seen as tolerable because they were confined to that community.

It was notable in Waterford, though, that a house and car not belonging to the factions were burnt “by mistake”.

More alarming, though, is the fact that the use of firearms is now part and parcel of such disputes.

Surely it’s time for all decent members of the Traveller community to get together to try and find solutions that will put a stop to this violence once and for all.
