Ferry link is welcome — but not low wages

I NOTE with satisfaction reports that the Port of Cork Company, supported by the Cork Chamber of Commerce, is discussing with a number of shipping companies the possibility of running a new ferry service between Cork and the port of Gijon in northern Spain.

Ferry link is welcome — but not low wages

If such a service can be got up and running, it would be a great boost to economic activity in the Cork area. It would also be a great help to the approximately €4 billion worth of trade annually between Spain and Ireland, a lot of which currently travels via Britain and/or France.

I do hope, however, that if this service commences those involved will ensure it does not become another low-wage shipping operation operating out of Cork.
