Polls show neutrality was not major issue

CLLR Bronwen Maher of the Green party (Letters, July 17) says that “one of the key findings of the recent European Commission survey among those who voted no to the Lisbon Treaty was a concern to safeguard Irish neutrality”.

Polls show neutrality was not major issue

Ms Maher does not appear to have read the same Eurobarometer flash opinion poll that I read because the key finding was that 52% of non-voters and 22% of no voters responded as they did because they didn’t know what it was all about.

Only 6% of no voters (or 1.6% of the total electorate) voted no to protect neutrality.
