Question of trust

I VOTED no principally because of a lack of trust in what politicians say and promise. The shenanigans at the tribunals and the unquestioning support given to Bertie Ahern by his colleagues didn’t help.

Question of trust

The fact that before we joined the Common Market all sorts of promises were made that harmonisation across Europe would be a reality. VRT on cars put paid to that.

As to the actual document itself, a friend in the Green Party with an eye for detail who intended voting yes read the document from cover to cover and then decided to vote no. Ben Dunne was also a strong influence and threats from the French annoyed me.

This was a test of democracy and, as Tony Benn said on Newstalk last Sunday, Sarkozy’s definition of democracy and Mugabe’s are not a million miles a part: keep voting until you get the right result.
