On the bandwagon

I FEEL uneasy travelling around my local community, finding many local politicians using the Lisbon Treaty referendum for self-promotion in advance of next year’s European and local elections.

Large images of Mary Lou McDonald (no), Eoin Ryan (yes), Lucinda Creighton (yes), Gay Mitchell (yes) and Paddy McCartan (yes) are festooned on our lamposts.

However, the prize has to go to three Labour councillors who have their local election posters up a year early with a very small yes message hidden in the top left corner.

I will be voting yes, but this total abuse of the Lisbon Treaty campaign by certain self-promoting politicians should get a firm no in the European and local elections in June 2009.
