Capital country

I HAVE often wondered at the seemingly random use of capital letters when your newspaper refers to ‘West Cork’.

A lower case ‘w’ and upper case ‘C’ seems standard or preferred, but a double capital is not uncommon in your pages.

The one-sock-up and one-sock-down approach never looked correct with me, as surely ‘West Cork’ is a region in its own right, the same way as the regions of Connemara and Beara are given capitals.
