Hillery’s humanity

THE death penalty was still on the statute books during Patrick Hillery’s presidency and a number of such sentences were handed down during that period.

However, President Hillery was personally opposed to capital punishment and unfailingly commuted these sentences to life imprisonment.

I feel attention should be drawn to this fact as it reflects his human decency.
