Shrinking plan

THE IMF recently projected that Irish economic growth will fall from 5.3% to 1.8%.

Shrinking plan

I remember Brian Cowen boasting about the National Development Plan (NDP) at the last general election.

This plan was drafted on the assumption that GDP growth would not decelerate to anywhere near this extent. This is despite the fact that there were numerous warnings that such growth deceleration could occur.

This lack of foresight will result in a funding black hole for the NDP and many of its projects will simply disappear.

As the Taoiseach-designate has failed to prepare for this, one wonders how much of the existing NDP is going to materialise within its stated timeframe.
