Mahon will get his judgment in first

IT is disgraceful that Bertie Ahern should attack the Mahon Tribunal for the way it dealt with his secretary, Gráinne Carruth.

Surely even if his secretary couldn’t remember lodging sterling instead of pay cheques into his accounts, he must have known it was sterling, but apparently he didn’t tell her.

So clearly if his secretary was upset when she did remember the sterling lodgements, then that was the Taoiseach’s fault for leaving her in the mire, so to speak.

In any case, on leaving office Bertie Ahern said he would be judged by history. Maybe so, but doesn’t he have to be judged by the tribunal first?
