Neutrality not in doubt

SINN Féin opposes the Lisbon treaty because it says it will lead to Irish involvement with NATO. The treaty does nothing of the sort. This is the same message SF has given in every EU referendum since 1972.

Irish troops cannot serve on peacekeeping missions abroad unless it is under UN mandate. Ireland cannot join a European military alliance unless we vote for it in a separate EU referendum. The Lisbon Treaty does not alter Ireland’s neutrality one iota.
