SENATOR Terry Leyden offers the view that “military neutrality is a defining feature of our country” (Letters, March 6).

So the use of Shannon as a support facility to aid and abet the military fiascos in Afghanistan and Iraq, with their horrific consequences for another generation at least, and our placing of the UN in a secondary (if at all) position by supporting NATO’s resource-containment operation in neo-colonial Africa, are the senator’s definition of neutrality for the 21st century.
