Why Irish is worth it
I am referring to your front page headlines (January 21) concerning the Irish language.
Contrary to what you tried to convey, the cost of giving the Irish language official status in the EU is not excessive — it is worth every euro spent on it.
Irish is an ancient Celtic language. EU heads know well the value of preserving minority languages and the culture that surrounds them, such as songs, music and stories.
No, EU debates would not be better, using only one language such as English. There are things other than bread and butter that have much value — as our EU leaders well know, thank God.
