JUSTICE MINISTER Brian Lenihan’s response to the recent savage attack in which a man’s hand was severed from his arm has to be one of the funniest in years, even for this Government.

He has asked somebody to review current legislation on dangerous weapons “to see if it might need tightening up”. He might even consider asking people to have licences for such swords.

This is about the equivalent of the captain of the Titanic asking the first mate quietly to check that the lifeboats don’t have too many holes in them.
