Home on the range

AS a fan of cowboy films, I thank TG4 for its enjoyable primetime screening of that genre on Friday nights.

Under the delightfully incongruous series title ‘An Western’, I can look forward to the rhythm of horses’ hooves, the therapeutic grandeur of the open range, the reassuring line-up of stock characters and settings and the underlying battle between good and evil.

A few weeks ago TG4 treated us to one of the very best: Kirk Douglas and Anthony Quinn in Last Train from Gun Hill (1959), directed by John Sturges.
