If he had studied the proposed changes to the system, he would appreciate that the existing tax policy will apply to vehicles registered before July 2008. Unless Mr Rudge plans to buy a brand new Land Cruiser late next year, he will be unaffected by the change.

He will have to pay the current rate which, for a three litre, is still more than €1,000 a year. If Mr Rudge is concerned about his carbon footprint, he should sell the 4WD, buy a buggy and use the horse as transportation.
