Bertie tax leak betrayal of right to privacy

GOVERNMENT ministers are standing four square behind the Taoiseach by staying silent on the latest exposé on his tax affairs while a well-placed ‘servant’ within the Revenue Commissioners is freely leaking confidential and personal information to a contact in the media.

This being so, we can now be certain that no one in this State can feel assured that their personal dealings with the Revenue Commissioners will be treated in confidence. This is no ordinary scam. It is nothing less than a betrayal of the basic right to individual privacy.

So, why the silence from Justice Minister Brian Lenihan?

And what has happened to the voices of civil rights groups?

Is it not the duty of our justice minister to root out the miscreants who have infiltrated such a highly sensitive area? Or is he waiting for his department to become similarly compromised.
