IN recent years, most towns in Munster have gone to great effort and expense to erect Christmas decorations.

City fails to sparkle

In contrast, Cork city’s efforts are looking more and more miserable.

In particular, the lights in Patrick Street are both miserable and unseasonal. Where are the vibrant reds and greens that are the traditional colours of Christmas? Until recently, the side wall of Merchants Quay, facing the river, used to be festooned with lights, but now it is bare. Similarly, Maylor Street does not have a single Christmas decoration across its width.
