Fleeing the courts - One law for the rich...

IMAGINE if solicitor Michael Lynn, who is being sought over property debts of about €60 million, was a young man from a poorish urban neighbourhood where the only fashion decision necessary would be which colour hoodie to wear.

Would he have been allowed to walk the streets and hold onto his passport allowing him to flee the courts?

Despite all the protestations from the Law Society about “a few bad apples” the answer is as plain and as accurate as the evidence given by the late James Gogarty to the Mahon Tribunal.

Mr Gogarty described being asked by a colleague if they would get a receipt for a “donation” to a political figure. “Like feck we will,” replied Mr Gogarty.

To paraphrase, and to answer the question regarding the young man in the hoodie: “Like feck he would.”
