Viewing this in the context of the enormous and totally unjustifiable salary rises for the Taoiseach and his ministers (now merely deferred), I would like to quote Aesop, a Greek slave who lived about 570 BC: “We hang the petty thieves and appoint the great ones to public office”. Seemingly, we have not progressed at all in 2,500 years.
