PAUL LYNCH (Letters, November 28) seems to have got his facts very wrong in relation to the safety of the Corrib gas pipeline.

New gas pipe route chosen to allay fears

The Advantica report found the pipeline to be safe.

It was Shell’s intention to run the untreated gas at a pressure of 135 bar to 150 bar, but Advantica recommended that the pressure be not more than 144 bar, which Shell accepted. If this was done, it would be rated as a Class 2 suburban pipeline.
