PATRICK BROWNE (Letters, December 5) says he can see a place for people-carriers for larger families and he would advocate SUVs for those who really need them.

Snobs and begrudgers target big car drivers

The problem, he adds, is that both vehicles are used by many people who don’t need them. Show-offs and snobs, as he calls them.

To use this logic we can advocate the banning of all BMW, Mercedes, Lexus and Audi cars, and other luxury marques, because their function can be performed by cheaper cars. Likewise, let’s ban Porsche, Ferrari, etc, because their function is deemed unnecessary.
