‘Irrational’ opposition to religion in schools

IN his letter calling on the Minister for Education not to support faith-based schools (November 26), Maurice Fitzgerald got one thing right — he says that “schools are places of learning”.

But, sadly, the rest of his letter displays an irrational antagonism towards people of faith, particularly those of the Catholic persuasion.

Mr Fitzgerald concludes by saying that “if children grow up on a diet of religious indoctrination in publicly-funded schools, we stand little chance of removing old prejudices and divisions”.
