‘False reports’ on cancer misdiagnosis

WHILE I am not a medical person, I am amazed nonetheless at the headlines and false reports in the controversy arising from breast cancer misdiagnosis.

A mammogram does not give an all-clear and is not a perfect test. As indicated in the recent review, further tests have to be done to confirm the presence or absence of cancer.

I am sure those tests were not available at the Midland Hospital in Portlaoise, so why blame one single profession? The HSE and doctors should educate the public regarding the limitations of a mammogram
