Tax evasion - Culture of theft needs to change

THERE is a long and shabby tradition of tax evasion in Ireland, a tradition which has had it representatives in every section of our community, from politicians to clergymen.

Though not as widespread as it once was — we are led to belive — it had become almost a national sport.

So pervasive and blatant was the practice that it was deeply divisive and undermined the credibility of offices of the State.
