Get arrogant managers out of the way and let doctors set priorities
Control, intimidation and acquiescence are the end points of the cult of managerialism. This cult is gradually destroying medical morale in primary and secondary care. The consequences are all too obvious. Disillusionment and inefficiency are rife.
Despite this, medical staff in the public sector performed too well this year. Performance is ahead of projections, so the Government informs HSE administrators that services must be scaled down. Of course, in their fantasy world, this does not impact on patients, or so we are obliged to believe.
