MEPs launch campaign to reduce VAT on condoms in bid to fight Aids

A CAMPAIGN to cut the rate of VAT on condoms has been launched on Facebook by members of the European Parliament ahead of World Aids day next month.

The rate of HIV/Aids is increasing throughout Europe and the MEPs say reducing the cost of condoms would help increase their sales and use.

VAT rates vary widely in the EU with some countries having a zero rate, while Sweden and Denmark charges 25% tax.
