Taxpayers hoodwinked as airports decline
The Cork, Shannon and Dublin authorities were set up three years ago and fanfared as progress. Since then Shannon has disintegrated, Dublin has become a disaster area hated by the public and Cork has been forgotten.
Cork Airport Authority is anonymous and devoid of power. Passengers still have to walk in the rain and climb 26 steps. Carpark charges are very high despite the long walking requirements. Catering charges are also very high.
What is happening to the revenue? Is Cork airport becoming like the health boards with many highly-paid administrators while staffing levels for passenger services are reduced.
Cork airport was 46 years old yesterday. Will it reach 50 without covered walkways? I bet it will not be short of administrators.
