TV documentary omits vital chapter on Collins

The programme on Michael Collins shown on RTÉ 1 (October 9) was very disappointing.

In it no mention was made of the book which he wrote a the height of the Civil War, called The Path to Freedom.

Collins used the book to outline his plan for the development of the country. He said people were our greatest asset. But when he was gone, people became our greatest export.

The Irish Free State was an apt name for the 26 Counties.

Is the State any better off since it was called a republic.

It doesn’t matter what name is over the shop door — it is what happens within that matters.
