Robert’s mother deserves our respect

WHY shouldn’t Majella Holohan know exactly what happened to her child, the child she gave birth to and nourished and cared for over 12 years?

I can well remember the sense of disbelief and panic we parents felt during the search for Robert.

How we imagined a child killer was at large and how we panicked if our own children were out of our sight for an instant.

Wayne O’Donoghue shattered all our sense of security in one act. That week of the search was a very low place in this country’s history.

O’Donoghue is still alive, he still enjoys certain comforts in life and will someday soon, too soon, enjoy things like Christmas with his family, the freedom to marry, have children, and pursue his chosen career.

All these freedoms have been denied Robert.

Shame on Justice Carney for his comments.

I cheered Majella on the day of her victim impact report and I admire her dignity throughout the whole episode and since.
