Tailor, seaman, blacksmith and rigger: the signposts on one woman’s ancestral journey

I HOPE that some or any one of your readers can help me trace my Irish ancestors.

I have tried to find traces in Cobh, Cork and Dublin.

My great-great-grandfather was George Appleby who was tailor in Whitepoint, Cobh.

My great-grandfather was also named George Appleby, a seaman. He married Bridget Walsh, whose father was a blacksmith, also from Whitepoint.

They had two children, my grandmother, Mary Catherine, known also as Bertha, and James.

At the time of James’s birth her address was given as The Docks, Queenstown (now Cobh), and George was described as rigger.

Then we lose all trace of the Appleby family except for my grandmother, who married Michael Fitzharris in Cobh.

Needless to say, any help would be greatly appreciated.
