‘Intelligent design’ and ungodly persecutors

IN HIS letter making the case against Richard Dawkins’ book The God Delusion, Fr Con McGillicuddy (Letters, September 17) says that “commonsense provides irrefutable evidence, based on simple but cogent arguments” for a grand design by a “benign and caring creator”.

‘Intelligent design’ and ungodly persecutors

The attempts to introduce such “intelligent design” nonsense in US schools were blocked (thank God!) by the US Supreme Court in a country where such godliness seems to be used to validate everything, including going to war.

These would be the same “commonsense, cogent arguments” that have been used on religious grounds to persecute those behind scientific discoveries such as that the earth goes round the sun and not the other way around.

And this would be the “benign and caring creator” who insists that his followers shall not worship false gods, a feature common to most religions.

So is this creator a Catholic, Protestant or Jewish God, or Allah or Buddha or Hindu or Sikh?

To quote that great philosopher Homer (Simpson that is): “How do you know you haven’t picked the wrong god, and so every time you go to church you’re just making the real one madder?”
