Let’s have the anthem instead of a pub song

THE sight of a proud Namibian rugby player with tears in his eyes as he faced his national flag and sang his national anthem before representing his country at the World Cup was a lot more inspiring than the sight of the Irish team facing a cartoon flag while singing along to a karaoke tune.

Let’s have the anthem instead of a pub song

To ignore the national flag and anthem on the world stage is nothing short of disgrace.

Ireland’s Call is a pub song.

The players spoke after the opening pool game of the need to get the basics right.

What can be more basic than having our national symbols in place before the game to inspire these great players and remind them of who they represent.

Any player who would have a problem with this is not worthy to wear the green of Ireland.
