INITIAL results from the British government’s nationwide consultation on whether to build more nuclear power stations suggest that more people are in favour of nuclear power than are against.

Nearly half — 46% — said they supported or strongly supported the continued use of nuclear power, with only 25% of people saying they either opposed or strongly opposed the idea.

The consultation, carried out across Britain over the weekend, also found that 89% said they were either concerned or very concerned about safety and security issues and 92% were very concerned or quite concerned about creating new nuclear waste.
