Shannon move a warning for Cork and Dublin

I AM appalled at the Aer Lingus decision to end its Shannon-Heathrow service. Unfortunately, that is the price we pay for selling off our national assets.

Shannon move a warning for Cork and Dublin

After all, a private company is interested primarily in maximising profits and not in providing a social service. While, ironically, the Shannon-Heathrow service was profitable, it was not sufficiently so for the avaricious management of privatised Aer Lingus.

Of course, they also plan to employ pilots and cabin crew at cheaper rates out of Belfast. Here lies a warning for Dublin and Cork airports. What’s to stop Aer Lingus from dropping its Heathrow services from these airports as well? This would cause enormous damage to Dublin communities in Ballymun, Coolock and Santry who rely on Aer Lingus and Dublin airport for jobs.
