Belfast already has a Heathrow service

AER Lingus has removed three international flights a day to Heathrow from Shannon and replaced them with three domestic flights a day to Heathrow from Belfast International Airport, which is over 20km from the city centre.

Belfast already has a Heathrow service

The funny thing is that Belfast already has a Heathrow service.

BMI operates eight flights a day to Heathrow from Belfast City Airport, which is only 3km from the city centre.

So Aer Lingus is moving a profitable Heathrow service from the west, leaving the region with none, to the North which already has a more comprehensive service from a competing airline.

If I happened to live in the west, I would feel very aggrieved and worried about my job.

And if I were a Fianna Fáil minister who cares about the interests of my constituents, I would cancel my holiday and fly home pronto.
